About the show:
A Tribute to the Legendary Ladies of Country Music!
Heartsongs was originally supposed to open at a major Twin Cities theater on July 6. Then, for reasons completely unrelated to the show, the theater was forced to cancel the run and strip down the remainder of their season, just three days before rehearsals were set to begin! We believed so strongly in this show that we decided to take it upon ourselves to get it out into the world....
This musical, crafted to make audiences’ hearts sing, features songs of love, heartbreak, family and faith. Heartsongs is a joyous celebration of the power and resilience women discover within themselves as they travel down life’s highway of young love, marriage, heartbreak (and revenge!), and motherhood. As they come to the far end of that journey, they find they have accumulated a wellspring of wisdom to pass along to their daughters, as the unbroken circle begins all over again.
The show pays tribute to current and legendary country greats such as The Carter Family (June, Carlene and Mother Maybelle), Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Kitty Wells, Wanda Jackson, Lynn Anderson, Reba McEntire, Bobbie Gentry, The Judds, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Tammy Wynette, Patty Loveless, Loretta Lynn and the Dixie Chicks.
Created by local singer/actor/composer/director Dennis Curley and writer/lyricist Jim Robinson, Heartsongs features Dorian Chalmers and Debra Berger as the lead singers backed by a mostly female band. Fiddle, guitar, banjo and bass will accompany hit songs such as “Walkin’ After Midnight,” "Sweet Dreams,” “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels,” “Harper Valley P.T.A.,” “Coat of Many Colors,” “I Never Promised You a Rose Garden,” “Mama, He’s Crazy” and more. The show is directed by Martha Pettee, musically arranged by Dennis Curley, and written by Jim Robinson.
